About

Who is Sarah Crowne?

Once upon a time, a little girl pulled a chair up to the kitchen counter because she couldn’t reach it. She didn’t yet know how to print, only how to make swirly circles on paper with blue crayons. Her mission? She had a story to tell and needed someone to listen. Her mother’s tape recorder sat on the counter and the little girl knew how to press record. So, she climbed up on the chair and pulled the radio forward. With the hit of a button, the world came alive as she began to recite her made up adventures, leaving it forever imprinted on magnetic audio tape.

That little girl was me.

I don’t know when I decided to be a writer because I didn’t decide. I was born creating stories.

As a kid, I loved books.

I flipped through the pages, studied the words and illustrations long before I could read or write. No one actually read a lot to me as a kid, but my father was a storyteller. Long afternoon walks in the woods were often accompanied by one of his majestically crafted stories filled with adventurous characters that ranged from lions, squirrels, bluebirds, and some version of me. They most always started with Once Upon a Time . . .

Likewise, my mother supported my literary flair, keeping my construction paper-made books, story tapes, and journals throughout the years as she encouraged me to keep at it. In fact, my mom bought me my first computer, a Gateway desktop wrapped in a cow print box. She didn’t have money for a computer, but somehow, she made it happen.

So who am I?

I grew up in New England, on the wrong side of the tracks. I set out on my own at 19, working full time while going to college full time—through many years filled with trials and triumphs that I wouldn’t trade for one thing, because it all made me who I am today. Most importantly, I got to do it all with my husband (the love of my life and best friend!) along with our children who later joined our journey.

I’m a first-generation college grad with degrees in psychology, education and law. A former early childhood teacher, I took the unconventional path to becoming a business attorney skilled in contract negotiation after a decade of teaching. These days, you can find me negotiating multimillion dollar deals by day and writing by night. Though I’m dubbed “A Busy Lady” by my loyal and affectionate followers on Substack, I promise, I do understand the meaning of rest and how important it is to fill your cup. Mostly, I believe we all have the power to live our best lives, using our talents and capabilities to cast our light onto the world as we help others find their light, too. That’s my mission.

My writing journey…

During my writing journey, I’ve met so many fabulous writers and creative people that continue to inspire me. My studies have spanned from studying novel writing under the UCLA Writer’s Program to personal mentorship under Hollywood Story Structure guru, John Truby. Under Truby’s guidance, I’ve earned certificates in Novel Writing, Philosophy in Writing, Television Writing, and Transmedia. I am also an active participant in Truby’s Writer’s Room, breaking down story structure bit by bit with a fantastic group of talented writers, as each of us create our own compelling stories to share with the world.

What do I write?

Well, according to the experts, I’m supposed to stick to one genre . . . but I don’t like being closed in a box. It took me twenty years to figure out I like writing speculative fiction best. My latest novel, All These Threads of Time, is a time travel murder mystery. I am also working on a gripping thriller, Tune In, that explores fame and mind control. I write speculative fiction/thrillers/mysteries because these genres expand our minds, forcing us to not only learn how to think successfully, but how to dream for a better future. In addition to speculative fiction, I also write poetry, creative nonfiction, and am always experimenting with other genres.

If you’ve followed me this far is this longer bio—thank you! I’m glad you’re here and hope you enjoy my work. You can find me on Substack at A Busy Lady, Goodreads, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, You Tube, or in the pages of my novels. Last but not least, thank you for being on this journey with me as I continue to discover the writer I am and the stories we’ll share together in this little thing called life.
